It is the only temple in India without a Nandi in front of Lord Shankara's pinda. Located at a walking distance to the east of the holy Ramkunda, this temple has to climb steep steps.
The traditional palanquin of Kapaleshwar leaves here every Monday. On the holy Monday of the month of Shravan, Mahashivaratri, there is a queue of Shiva devotees for darshan. Legend has it that after hearing the blasphemy of Vishnu from one of the mouths of Brahma, Shankara pierced it. Shankar Saravaira started fleeing due to the sin of Brahmahatya. In between he (Nandi) heard the dialogue. The bull said, I will kill my master tomorrow. The cow refused and told about the sin of Brahmahatya. To which the bull said, I know the place of the Brahmahatya destruction.

The bull killed the owner and he ran away. Shankar ran after him. The bull came to Nashik and jumped into Ramkunda and he was acquitted. Shankara also jumped after him. Purified, Shankara sat in front of Kapari. Nandi made the sin of Brahmahatya disappear. Therefore, considering Nandi as his guru, Shankara did not place Nandi in front of him in this place. Though there is Nandi in the temples of Lord Shiva everywhere in India, there is no Nandi in front of Kapaleshwar Temple.
Kapaleshwar Temple is located to the east of Ramakund, Panchavati at Nashik
The reason why there's no Nandi statue in the temple is because Lord Shiva regarded Nandi as a Guru or teacher and hence, there is no Nandi to guard the Kapaleshwar Temple. Mistakenly, once Lord Shiva killed a cow.
